It never gets default, a habit, you are never ‘habitually’ a practising Muslim. One day or other it is great, you are able to perform all the Faraidh and most of the Sunnahs very lovingly and effectively. But then comes the test part, other priorities kick in, point of focus changes either because of a certain distraction or any certain event takes your attention and you just lose it, you do not feel the same way towards your prayers and reciting Quraan, you don’t feel the same willingness and ‘khushoo’ (delightfulness). Allah says is Surah Muhammad, Ayah no. 31:
And We will surely test you until We make evident those who strive among you [for the cause of Allah ] and the patient, and We will test your affairs
And we will surely test you until We make evident those who strive among you [for the cause of Allah ] and the patient, and We will test your affairs.”
Al Qur’an [47:31]
The point I want to make here is, it is okay, it is completely normal to feel this up and down in your Iman (faith) from time to time. And this is what makes it a lifetime pursuit.
There is only one thing to never forget in this lifelong journey. Never think that ALLAH loves you less, ALLAH forgot you or HE doesn’t care about you, you or your efforts and your incompetent virtues are insignificant in HIS eyes. Never underestimate HIS mercy neither ever underestimate his greatness.
Arabic narration:
Translation Anas ibn Malik reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said,
All of the children of Adam are sinners, and the best sinners are those who repent.”
Sunan Ibn Mājah 4250
Kneel down, cry, ask forgiveness the very moment you remember any of your past mistakes or sins or any sinful plans, without wasting a single blink of an eye, without letting one more breath you take.
Anas ibn Malik reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said,
Allah is more joyful with the repentance of his servant than one of you who has lost his camel on a journey in an empty desert while it carries his food and drink.
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 5950, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2747
May Allah always keep us on right path and never let us go astray for even a single moment. Amen.

Everyone is a sinner,
God may cast wicked men into hell at any given moment.
The wicked deserve to be cast into hell. Divine justice does not prevent God from destroying the Wicked at any moment.
The wicked, at this moment, suffer under God’s condemnation to Hell.
The wicked, on earth—at this very moment—suffer a sample of the torments of Hell. The wicked must not think, simply because they are not physically in Hell, that God (in Whose hand the wicked now reside) is not—at this very moment—as angry with them as He is with those miserable creatures He is now tormenting in hell, and who—at this very moment—do feel and bear the fierceness of His wrath.
At any moment God shall permit him, Satan stands ready to fall upon the wicked and seize them as his own.
If it were not for God’s restraints, there are, in the souls of wicked men, hellish principles reigning which, presently, would kindle and flame out into hellfire.
Simply because there are not visible means of death before them at any given moment, the wicked should not feel secure.
Simply because it is natural to care for oneself or to think that others may care for them, men should not think themselves safe from God’s wrath.
